The
Rio Grande Valley Equal Voice Network received news yesterday, November
16th, 2011, that the Four Freedoms Fund has awarded the Immigration
Working Group a grant of $50,000
to support the working group's activities to counter border
enforcement
abuses, as well as seek enforcement administrative and policy reforms.
Texas ACLU and Rio Grande Legal Aid have offered valuable assistance in
helping us receive these funds.
The
Abuse Documentation Project is a borderwide effort to systematically
record and analyze abuses suffered at the hands of the Border Patrol and
Immigration officials. We aim to leverage this data toward our work on
reforming enforcement policies.
Many of the member organizations have years of experience collecting data around abuse by Border Patrol, most notably Proyecto Libertad, ARISE, LUPE, and Proyecto Juan Diego. This project looks to broaden and coordinate these efforts.
